Since this is a Risk fans board, I was wondring if anyone has played any other game like risk that has a lot of politics and diplomacy in it. I like risk a lot because you get to play with the minds of other players. I am searching for other similar games and I was wondering what you think. I know there has been a game like diplomacy which risk was based on. But i have a feeling that is a bit old fashioned and doesn't have the same elegance of Risk. So I am looking for other type of games.

As I said in my other reply,try Civilization. I am also going to play Spore which just came out and see if it is as strategic as I hope for.

As far as I know I think Spore has some elements of RTS in it and even that doesn't seem to be a major part of the game. I may give it a try if I get time. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, there are not that many turn based games like Risk these days. Most of the focus has been on extending these games and adding features to make them more realistic. There are quite a few board games involving situation maps and zones of control. A while back I played a German version of one these games with friends. I don't recall the name, but if anyone is interested I can always find out. Basically it is a custom strategy game that most people have not played. So when you play with others, you are always in the same boat as everyone else. Everyone is trying to understand the rules and get by. This was about how to expand a map by progressively adding tiles to it so that you end up with more development so that you could expand more rapidly. The objective was to end as a player who had the largest area. It was good fun and we were at it for a few hours until we got tired. I wouldn't say it was a match for Risk, not much diplomacy either, but there was quite a bit of strategy required and having played once you could tell how you were going to improve next time. The best place to look for such games, is dedicated board game toy shops and ask them about the latest varieties. Good luck hunting for games.
