Hey,

I'm somewhat new in this game and new to the site, and I have an interesting situation:

Total Diplomacy Risk Map: 1-June-2nd-Where-to-Go
Open Copy in Risk Map Editor

As red, I gained the upper hand but blue is staying firmly lodged in Europe, until I grabbed S. Europe last turn.

I am semi-experienced, as are the other 3 players.  Fortifying is only to adjacent territories.  I have a tentative alliance with yellow and brown, as I have shown goodwill to yellow by not attacking it N. America, and brown faces imminent danger from blue's forces.  The next turns are blue, then yellow, brown, then red (me).

My biggest fear is the alliance joining blue against me, as I have the most power.

My ideals are this, tell me if any are bad for any reason:

*Red (me) takes W. Europe using any of the neigboring forces

*Brown taking Ukraine.

What should I  look for next?

Thanks,

Admrial Gar Stazi

UPDATE:

After a few more rounds, I lost a lot and regained a lot of territory, losing armies in the process.  Blue was effectively diminished.  Brown and yellow gained prominence and began warring over Asia.

Total Diplomacy Risk Map: 1-June-3rd-Equalizing-Powers
Open Copy in Risk Map Editor

It is Brown's Turn, followed by Red (Me), then blue, then yellow.  Brown will be getting 27 armies due to a card trade-in.  Thoughts?

*The Asia war has be ongoing for 3+ rounds.

*Red (me) has a tentative alliance with blue, but blue will gain numerous (at least 28) armies next turn, and is sore over loss of land in Europe, and my reclaiming of S. America and Africa from her.

*Yellow has been attacking Red's N. America territories to little avail.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Admiral Gar Stazi

Hi Admiral Gar Stazi (cool name)

Welcome to the forum. Having looked at the game, it seems quite interesting though I am wondering why it is not moving on. I have a feeling that players are playing conservatively or are new to the game.

So you or Brown and Blue are getting 27 or 28 armies!!!! That’s a lot for this map.

Let’s say I am Brown. The first thing I will do is to count the total armies of each player in the game. It turns out that Blue has 12, and Yellow has 19. Both are within reach and I can access every single one of their territories in one single attack without any extra loses. I already know that Blue will get 28 armies next turn because of cards, which means eliminating Blue will have a large reward.

The choice is crystal clear. You usually need a bit more than twice the other player to be completely safe when going for an eliminations. Brown has 27 versus 12. No brainer. It’s very likely that Brown will eliminate Blue.

The real threat in the game is Red. I am not sure what you mean by tentative alliance. When can you attack each other? Where can you not attack?

Brown should eliminate Blue, cash the cards and then proceed to eliminate Yellow all in one turn. You didn’t say about Yellow’s cards, but I guess Yellow has some as well. With two players eliminated and half the world, Brown can now compete with Red. From here it is all about momentum, experience in end game manoeuvres and cards.

If you are Red, I am afraid there is not much you can do if Brown goes down this route. If Brown doesn’t, Blue should cash in and go to eliminate Brown. Either way, 27 is way too many armies to place in the map without an attempt to eliminate. If you are Red and want to win, get them to fight each other without eliminating. You need tons of diplomacy for this. If they are new to the game this is not that difficult.

Hope this help. Please let us know how the games progresses. I am intrigued.

Hey,

(Gar Stazi is the last Admrial of the Galactic Alliance, by the way....)

This is how my board turned out.  Brown, yellow, and blue warred over Asia, while quietly built up, then swept N. America and half of Asia.  Miraculoulsly, my peace treaty with blue held.  Thanks for the advice, if you see anything noteworthy feel free to point it out.  (Turns: blue, yellow, brown, red (me))

Interesting. It seems that Blue or Brown simply went against each other and you have done a good job. You should have no problem winning now. Did Brown and Blue learn their lesson?

Looks like a cool game. I am also surprised that others didn't use their armies as much. If I was brown, would have made a pact with europe and gone after yellow for elimination and then focused on red. You did well though and managed to win, so well done. The problem is that they may not play the same next time.
