I normally see which continent I have most territories in then stick all my men in there. If I have even one in South America I take it.

I find that taking Europe is the best beginning place to set your guys.
Why you ask?
Because Europe has access to Asia, North America, and Africa. Which two of the above are super powers. Also owning Europe gives you 5+ armies per turn, also most people I play with don't brother with Europe, they prefer to take asia and Africa.
Lets look at the other continents:
Asia: Everyone, and I mean everyone wants asia. Its big, can attack three different continents, and gets you 7+ men per turn. So taking this in mind everyone who be trying to get it, if you are in the middle of this 'Player Cross Fire' you will be taken very easy, never, and mean never try to rely on Asia.
North America: Other big super Power, has access to Europe ,South America, and most importently asia this is also a largely wanted continent that gives you 5+ men, the main reason people look over this then Europe is because it is also big, and has access to asia.
South America: Other continent I prefer to take, its small, has access to North America, and Africa. Once you finish taking thia continent you can go get its 'sister' continent Africa, which gives you 5+ armies per turn if you own both continents.
Africa: The 'sister' continent to South America, has access to Europe, Asia, and South America. This is also a great place to take since you can take one of the places in Asia, and keeping it defended so it takes a great deal of work to take it. I suguest taking South America before you doing anything else.
Australia: I hate this continent, way to small, gives you 2+ armies per turn, and only has one border. People like having one border, sinceits harder for people to attack you, but it is also hard for you to attack and gain places. Also knowing that the place right next to you is Asia, a hard to take and hold continent, this continent is trouble.
So there you have it, this is my view on the continents, this should help you on where to start. Though remember this is only my thoughts, maybe in-game it might work differently for you, and the people you play vs. may not think of what I just typed. I hope this helps with your problem.
Best Regards,
Shovah |

Well imo, i think South America is the best place to allocate your first armies, in addition to making sure you control "transit" lands near by such as North Africa and Central America. Now after you have establised a decent sized army, make a non-aggresion treaty between N.A. or Africa, and wipe out the other ( i usually choose Africa, because among my friends N.A is a hot target as well as being harder to control). Now you have a decent amount of land and will recieve +5 armies a turn. You should procede to make sure that you borders get fortified. To keep yourself ahead of the competition is to make sure that others do not get big continents.
Remember, it is extremely beneficail to you to have other countrys fight and police each other. And if u get N.A. and Europe and Asia to ignore you and make sure each other doesnt recieve a full continent, you will be in good shape. Now you wil have a big amry and ready to rampage. DO NOT however draw attention to the fact you have been slying accumulating armies and do not break pacts. Just take it slowly and advance into either N.A. or Europe, and making sure to keep goodwill if possible with your opponents. If they team up on you, your advantage will disipate. Once You have taken a third continent, there is no way you can really keep your profile low, i would suggwst turning in what sets you have and taking care to leave no holes in your defenses. Also if you take N.A. and Africa, S.A. cant be attacked so move them out.
Now build up armies and tryto take Europe, while making sure asia is not captured by your opponent. If you opponet hold asia while you lose troops in your euro trip, you may be in a tough spot . It is pretty much GG when you get 4 conts.
Remember if you are not stopping player x from getting a cont. he will may not stop you. But another player may see the danger of player x getting a cont, and invade. Then player x and y will be stuck struggling, a position ideal to you |

It is my personal belief that a player who takes both South America and North America cannot be logically stopped. There are always the players who roll dice like professional gamblers and can upset any game.
With only three borders and seven men, North and South America provide adequate defense and easily acquired invasion forces. The only problem I have is the occasional competitor who outrolls me and takes the prize called the Western Hemisphere.
I also enjoy taking Australia as nothing more than a colony. With its one border, isolated location, and two bonus reinforcements, it can be easily held and utilized in your late game invasion of Asia. |

I normally take Australia first too as well as expanding out of somewhere else, normally greenland or iceland and with that I take Europe or NA and go from there while holding Australia since no one really cares about it late in the game. |
