Okay. There are 6 players, one in Britian, West Europe. Northern Europe, Japan, Ukraine and the Eastern United States. While West Europe (France), North Europe (Germany) and Japan only get 1 territory, Ukraine (Russia) gets all territories that were part of the Russian Empire and Britian gets all territories historically part of the British Empire. The goal? To get as many territories as you can! Especially in Africa. I'll post variations on this.

Interesting variation.

However, how do you make sure the game is balanced for all players. After all you don’t want the British or Russians to have an overt advantage over others. In addition, when does the game stop. Having most territories is subject to change and attacks are followed by counter attacks. I suppose you dont want to set the goal to conquer the whole world since you want it to be different.

Thanks for sharing

The idea is nice; where you start with different empires and such. However, your specific variation gives such an advantage to the Russian empire and British lands, how do you even it out?

Personally, I like games where the players do not start off "even".  Playing from different positions and having different objectives is more realistic.

And what does the Eastern U.S. get, and that was part of the British empire, so what do you do there?

I think we should vary this a little: Western Europe is both the French and the Spanish! They should get the old French and Spanish empire: Northern Africa, Most of Latin America (save Argentina which goes to the British) plus the Western US and Canada.  Japan can get a few Asian countries and the French can get Siam.  This may even things out a bit.

How many armies do they start off with? Even if one player has only one territory but starts with 35 armies, they can still plow through a lot of territory. The ideas are nice, but need to be fleshed out. Including my own.

Actually it should even out as the weaker players will gang up against the stronger.

2¢ is my son so we have the same email. Sorry for any confusion.

I was just trying to bring in different historical eras for the different empires. I guess you could set up the empires any way you wish and the imperialist model piqued my attention. I actually like the idea of each empire starting off with a different set of resources. In real life, everyone does not start at the same place. Certainly in regular Risk, geography can set the starting positions in an uneven alignment that can give certain players an advantage, but I also like the idea of some players having more resources, different objectives and other things that differentiate teh competition. I think both Star Wars Risk games did a good job of doing that, each side having differnt objectives. This really brings a different flavor to the game.
